Online Complaint System for Cases of Violence Against Women During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Based on the National Commission on Violence Against Women’s Annual Records (2020), there has been a spike in cases of violence against women (KtP), whether sexual, cyber and child marriage. And domestic violence (KDRT) has the highest number of cases. However, the data currently available cannot provide a clear picture. This is due to the lack of documentation and access to information for women amidst the pandemic situation.

WhatsApp channels are seen as opportunities. Apart from the many assistants (caregivers) who use WhatsApp as a means of communication, various service institutions have also started opening complaint channels through this platform. According to TechCrunch, in 2020, the number of monthly active users (MAU) of WhatsApp in the world reached two billion users. The high number of WhatsApp users is also shown by the results of the Indonesian Digital Literacy Survey (2020) conducted by the KataData Insight Center (KIC) and the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) with 1,670 respondents from 34 provinces in Indonesia, 98.9% of respondents admitted to having the application, followed by Facebook and YouTube users of 89.8% and 87.8% of respondents. One of the biggest reasons why WhatsApp is so popular is because its user interface is simple and easy to use.
